Dad's Knee Replacement

The mission departure date is coming quickly, and there were a couple of last minute items that needed to be done.....like....A KNEE REPLACEMENT! No worries though, Dad has been a trooper and is doing quite well. His hospital stay was pleasant and uneventful with the exception of a nurse's aid hyperextending his knee one evening while preparing him for his "continuous motion machine"

We all tried to visit often and keep both Mom and Dad company. Mom has been at dad's side throughout the entire process getting him whatever he needs. Beckie even came and rubbed him down with essential oils. Apparently you could smell them upon entering the elevators by the time she was finished. Dad, however loves a good massage (oils or not). With the help of a home health nurse and home visits from a physical therapist in their ward area, dad was able to go straight home. He reveled in showing his scar to the grandchildren, all of whom gasped in horror and looked at grandpa with concern in their eyes, hahaha!

You can still see where mom wrote "yes" on the correct knee to replace.

He was able to rest comfortably at home for the most part. And sometimes we rested with him.

Lezlee catching up on resting while grandpa did too!
It's been a couple of weeks now, and dad is now going to physical therapy regularly (good) and walking using only his cane rather than a walker. The swelling in his leg has decreased, and he plans to give patriarchal blessings tomorrow! (Sunday). He even admitted to going down to his office, although I think it didn't last long. He has been overly diligent about reducing the use of any pain medication to the point of hurting more than he should.
Their farewell is scheduled for Sunday, May 19th at 9:00am. Until then, the preparation and blessings will continue.

Love,
Jill
